Read till the end to know about the best part of this blog. :)
When flying, many travelers wonder about the rules regarding carrying perfumes, especially in light of the various liquid restrictions imposed by airlines. The good news is that perfumes are generally allowed on planes in India, but there are specific guidelines and limitations you need to follow to ensure a smooth travel experience.
1. The Liquids Rule:
India follows international aviation security regulations that limit the quantity of liquids passengers can carry in their hand luggage. The standard rule applies to all liquids, gels, and aerosols, including perfumes. According to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), passengers are permitted to carry liquids in containers of up to 100 ml, provided all such items fit into a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of 1 liter. This includes perfumes.
2. Carrying Perfumes in Hand Luggage:
If you wish to carry perfume in your hand luggage, make sure the bottle is no larger than 100 ml. The bottle should be placed in the resealable plastic bag with your other liquid items, such as toothpaste, lotions, or gels. If you’re carrying a bottle larger than 100 ml, it will need to be placed in your checked luggage.
3. Perfumes in Checked Luggage:
There are no specific restrictions on carrying perfumes in your checked luggage, other than the overall liquid limits for checked bags. You can carry larger bottles of perfume in your checked luggage without issues. However, it’s advisable to pack the perfume carefully to avoid breakage, as bottles can be sensitive to rough handling during transit.
4. Aerosol Perfumes:
For aerosol-based perfumes (sprays), there are additional considerations. Since aerosol cans are pressurized, they are subject to stricter regulations. You are typically allowed to carry aerosol perfumes in your checked luggage, but it’s important to check the airline’s specific rules, as some airlines may have restrictions on the number or total weight of aerosol products you can bring. In hand luggage, aerosol products are often restricted or require special approval, so it’s best to check with your airline beforehand.
5. Perfumes in Duty-Free:
Perfumes purchased at duty-free stores in airports can be carried in hand luggage, regardless of the 100 ml restriction. However, the perfume must be sealed in an unopened, tamper-evident bag, and you must ensure it stays within the bag throughout your journey. If the seal is broken, it may be subject to additional security checks, and the perfume may not be allowed on the plane.
